Carrie Mitchell’s culinary journey began at home in a village in midwest America called Halfway, Missouri. Growing up she was heavily influenced by her family’s love of cooking and their tendency to incorporate ethnic foods into the family’s food repertoire. Starting at a young age, her travels to Europe expanded her interest in ethnic food traditions. Carrie worked in restaurants from age 13 through college where she earned her undergraduate degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. After graduation, Carrie took a position outside of food which allowed her to gain management experience and an understanding of entrepreneurship in the family printing/mail order business.
A strong desire for a career change and a trip to England in 2006 resulted in a life changing experience. While in a train station in London Carrie was drawn to a bakery kiosk of beautiful meat pies that looked and smelled wonderful. The hand pies were called pasties (pass-teez). One bite and the pasty charted the course for Carrie’s next adventure in food. In a twist of fate, Carrie’s English brother- in- law, Neil, was also looking for a change and was planning a move to America. Together they started London Calling Pasty Company. Ten years later Carrie continues to grow the London Calling menu with fun new flavors of pasties and other English comfort foods. She and Neil have two food trucks, (one pasty truck, one fish and chips truck), an iconic pub-like location in Ozark’s first food hall 14 Mill Market and are growing their food truck fleet. Located in Springfield, Missouri, they are expanding regionally with a goal of introducing the pasty to all Americans.
